Welcome to Black Rose Fishing Charters
TunaCandy lures worked so well for us this year for stripers and tuna that I wanted to make them available for you all.
The costs:
12" lures, 10 for $25. You'll see similar types of lures at the big box stores for $4-$5. I feel that if it were apples/apples, why spend the extra money. But, I feel that mine are better and you still get to pocket some money. This is a lot of plastic! These are big lures, yet we didn't get many short strikes on them. The tuna just sucked them in fast and got hooked in the corner of the mouth perfectly.
9" lures, 15 for $25. At the box stores, similar types of lures cost $1.75-$2.25 each. Why cry when the bluefish chews it up?
Tips:When you're fishing for tuna, most of the time you're approaching a school of breaking fish with the wind at your back. Therefore, you are casting with the wind. My 12" TunaCandy lures weigh about 3+ ounces and you can cast them a mile. When you add a tuna hook to the 9" lures, you'll have no problem casting them into the schools of tuna.
Tips: When you do cast, manually close the bail and pull the line tightly before reeling. And do it quickly--many times you get a hit within seconds of your lure hitting the water. It's amazing.
Tips: Reel it in with a stop-and-go retrieve. Many times the shearwaters will go after your lure. Let the bird get close, then pull the lure a couple of feet away from the bird, keeping it just out of range. This is the action you want, even if the birds aren't around!
