Nice, perfect day on the water today. The winds were light and the fish were pretty much willing. We had a cod trip today and I wanted to go for cod (bigger ones, hopefully), while keeping the option of haddock in our back pocket. We found tons of cusk, which filleted up nicely. The cod missed us, but....while cod fishing we had some nice tuna busting by the boat. I took a cast and BAM!, a giant slammed my tunaCandy popping lure. It was a giant. It left a crater of a wake/splash, but missed the lure. I was sick. It happens. We had fish busting here and there for an hour, but we didn't get any other strikes. We mostly codfished. Most of the fish in that school were of the larger variety.

In contrast to today's bigger fish, we've been seeing some amazing schools of smaller fish for the past month. One day, I though I was seeing a school of bonito! That's how small the bluefin tuna were. No more than 20 pounds and acres of them. That's a great sign for the fishery. Those fish will gain another 10 pounds by the end of the summer and come back next year as 35-40 in fish. And so it begins again! The size of the schools of tuna in our area have been enormous. If you follow the bait, you'll find the tuna. And, with more than 100 whales feeding on Stellwagen daily...there's a lot of bait. And that doesn't count the shoals of bait off of Chatham and beyond. It's awesome.

See you on the water; it's finally hot and the fishing is great. Sorry for the lack of reports for the past week, I was in Martha's Vineyard at the Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tourney. Great time all around; we had a monster mako on for a brief moment, but it came free. Big bucks down the tube... Capt. Rich, 508-269-1882

Black Rose Fishing Charters specializes in small, private fishing charters. Our rates are very affordable and it is much easier to put together a smaller charter. We are based in Green Harbor, but we fish all of Cape Cod, Massachusetts Bay, Plymouth Bay, and Buzzards Bay. We target all species of fish, depending on season. We fish for "groundfish", which means cod, haddock, pollack, wolf fish, cusk, hake, halibut, and redfish. We would fish for sharks every day if we could and we catch blue sharks, makos, threshers, and porbeagles. We love it. Because of the design of our boat, we can have 4 people casting at one time very easily. We love fishing for bluefin tuna (casting, jigging, and trolling), striped bass, and bluefish. We have a fast boat, full cabin, and comfortable ride. See you out there!
