Halibut

Ok, it happened in 2006. We got our first halibut! In a nutshell, this is the type of fish that you just can’t plan on catching in Mass. waters. Really, they’re rare, but exciting when it happens. It was small by halibut standards. This one measured 38” and weighed 19 pounds. Legal is 36 inches. Big is anything over 150 pounds. They get huge. I was reading that in the early 1800’s, there where schools of 400 pound fish off of Provincetown! That’d have been a sight! So much for being a trash fish at the time. So, it looks like a flounder, but think of the possibilities….
