Hake

Hakes are strange fish that we have been seeing more and more commonly. It looks a bit like a catfish, with the long ‘whiskers’. It’s a good eating fish, puts up a great fight, and fillets up nicely. Sometimes it’s called a ‘blue’ hake because of it’s iridescent coloring, which makes is pretty attractive. We find them commonly on the edges of rocky areas over muddier bottoms

We catch these fish on our groundfishing trips.

Hake, great eating fish, just watch out for the business end!
