Boy, this was the fish that put Quincy on the map in the 70's! I think you'll still find roadsigns proclaiming Quincy as the "flounder capital of the world."
Well, then Boston Harbor's pollution got really, really bad and the draggers added to the wipeout. Well, in Boston Harbor the flounder are quietly back and bigger
than ever. I wish the same could be said for Cape Cod. I grew up in Buzzards Bay catching them at will, but those days are behind us. I think that the cormorant
has much more to do with the problem than it is given credit for.
Still, we can and do target them from time to time and it always brings back great memories. Back then, we used rods, reels, and line that let us reel in old lobster traps,
but now we are more sporting with the tackle and the battle is much more fun. They really do fight great for their size. I like to spend a little time on other trips targeting
them for old-time's sakes.
