Sea Bass are rapidly becoming one of my favorite fish to catch in our waters for many reasons. First, I like taking people fishing for something that everyone can catch. No super skills needed. No strength needed, as these fish are only in 20-40' of water. What a great trip to take if you have kids. The fishing grounds in May and June are only 10-15 minutes from the marina in Buzzards Bay. And boy are they delicious!
We catch great numbers of them in May, with many fish nearing 6 pounds! We've even been catching 4 pound females! This is important as all sea bass start out their lives as females, but them switch over to become males around 2-3 pounds. At this time, they really start to grow quickly and they grow that tell-tale blue hump on their heads. They are amazing looking fish. We fish with bait and jigs, depending on current and the desires of the fishermen.
Fishing in Buzzards Bay, we also catch fluke, scup(porgy), flounder, stripers, blues, and other cool fish in these warm waters. Try fishing for black sea bass one of these days!
